Gossip is annoying, using a pipe to beat 'drinking friend' to death

This afternoon (July 16), Hanoi People's Court sentenced Tran Van Tuyen (born 1986, in Quoc Oai) to 12 years in prison for murder.

Previously, on the evening of September 28, 2019, Tuyen went to the house of Ta Dinh Hai (born in 1982, living in the same village). At that time, in Hai's yard, there were a number of people sitting eating and drinking beer.

Among them was Mr. Mai Van Thanh (born in 1966, living in the same village as the defendant). Mr. Thanh offered him a glass of beer and invited him to drink. However, the conversation was not pleasant when Mr. Thanh spoke ill of Tuyen's cousin.

This caused the defendant and the man in the same village to quarrel.

In a fit of anger, while lighting a pipe to smoke, Tuyen hit Mr. Thanh twice in the back of the neck, causing the victim to fall unconscious to the ground. After committing the crime, the defendant threw away the pipe and went home.

Taken to the emergency room, but due to severe injuries, Mr. Thanh died that same night from a traumatic brain injury.

In court, the defendant confessed to the crime as charged, but said he had no intention of taking the victim's life.
