GOAL
Arsenal: Cazorla (17'), Koscielny (71'), Ramsey (109')
Hull: Chester (4'), Davies (9')
Arsenal entered Wembley with a starting lineup of five attackers: Ramsey, Cazorla, Ozil, Podolski and Giroud. But before they could pressure their opponents, the Gunners were immediately dealt a blow. The clock had just passed the 9th minute when goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski's net had already shaken twice. Both goals Arsenal conceded came from crosses from the wing into the middle. The scorers for Hull City were defenders James Chester and Curtis Davies.
The two early goals had dampened the Gunners' coordination. Their subsequent attacks were quite exposed and lacked any real breakthroughs. In that context, Arsenal could only rely on set pieces. In the 17th minute, Santi Cazorla unleashed a perfect free kick that sent the ball flying, leaving goalkeeper Allan McGregor helpless.
This equalizer somewhat revived the fighting spirit of Arsenal players. But it was not until the second half that the Gunners' attacks became brighter, after coach Arsene Wenger brought Yaya Sanogo in to replace Lukas Podolski. The strength and good ability of the young French striker brought new breath to the attacks.
In that fiery attacking game, Arsenal did not receive support from referee Lee Probert. This referee ignored two penalties from the Gunners, especially the unclear incident of Jake Livermore handling the ball in the penalty area. However, Arsenal's tireless efforts were finally rewarded when Laurent Koscielny finished close to equalize the score 2-2. Arsenal could have settled the match in the official 90 minutes, if Kieran Gibbs had not missed a golden opportunity, shooting over the bar from close range.
But Arsenal finally got the win in the end when Aaron Ramsey scored the decisive goal in the 109th minute. The Welsh midfielder finished with a quick and delicate finish after Giroud's backheel. The goal brought a 3-2 victory and Arsenal's first title in nine years.
