Vinh Medical University Poor Patient Support Club receives national volunteer award
(Baonghean.vn) - After more than 7 years of establishment, the Vinh Medical University Poor Patient Support Club (CLB) with the slogan "A bowl of porridge warms the hearts of poor patients" is known for many meaningful and humane activities. The number of volunteers has increased rapidly from 50 to 1,200 people. On December 2, the Poor Patient Support Club was honored to receive the 2017 National Volunteer Award.

The Vinh Medical University Poor Patient Support Club was established in October 2010. The club gathers students, university students, and youth union members who want to participate in humanitarian volunteer activities and contribute to the movement to help poor patients.
The club maintains regular activities, continuously cooking and distributing free porridge to poor patients every week from Monday to Friday.
After more than 7 years of establishment, the Club has organized thousands of porridge distribution sessions, distributing an average of 108,376 porridge portions each year, more than 400 portions per day (from August 2015 to December 2015 alone, 800 portions per day) are distributed free of charge to patients at Nghe An Provincial General Hospital (from October 2010 to September 2014), Oncology Hospital and Orthopedic Trauma Hospital (from September 2014 to present).
"There are still many difficult situations, they need love and sharing. "The pot of love porridge" is not only a practical work, but also contributes to giving more strength to poor patients to recover soon" - Vo Nhu Quynh - Club Director shared.

Considered an excellent club, a bright spot in the volunteer movement of Nghe An province, in addition to free porridge distribution and support for poor patients, the club also organizes and participates in volunteer programs such as: "For community health", "Support for exam season", Summer volunteer campaign; health check-ups for ethnic minority children; care for wounded and sick soldiers at Nghe An province's War Invalids Nursing Center, care for patients being treated at Quynh Lap Central Leprosy and Dermatology Hospital (Quynh Luu); charity fundraising activities such as: selling flowers, cards, scrap metal...; cultural and sports exchanges...
At the same time, the Club also organizes professional activities, training volunteers on the necessary knowledge for cooking and distributing porridge, and extracurricular activities that attract a large number of students to participate.
With its contributions in volunteer activities and student movements, the Poor Patient Support Club of Vinh Medical University has continuously received certificates of merit from the Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Student Association, the Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee, and Nghe An Provincial Youth Union.
The 2017 National Volunteer Award is a worthy reward for a group of young people who are always committed to bringing benefits to the community and building noble human values in society.
The National Volunteer Award is an annual award organized by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in coordination with the United Nations Volunteer Program, presented to individuals and volunteer organizations with outstanding contributions and achievements in volunteer work for the community, contributing to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. The National Volunteer Center is the permanent unit in charge of organizing the annual National Volunteer Award.
