Ho Chi Minh City Club unexpectedly fires coach Miura
With poor performance in V.League 2018, only ranking 12th despite investing a lot of money, coach Toshiya Miura was fired by Thong Nhat Stadium.
According to information from the Sports & Culture newspaper, Ho Chi Minh City Club has decided to fire coach Toshiya Miura, former captain of the Vietnam National Team.
Mr. Miura was invited by former acting President Le Cong Vinh at the beginning of the 2018 season with the goal of bringing the team named after Uncle Ho to the top 3 of V.League by the end of the season.
The Thong Nhat Stadium team has brought in many quality new players such as Phi Son, Ngoc Thinh, Van Thuan, Huynh Kesley..., but could not achieve the set goals, and was even in the relegation group at the end of the season.
In fact, Coach Miura's uncertain future was predicted when former acting President Le Cong Vinh resigned and established the Community Football Academy, while Coach Huu Thang was appointed as the new president.
The pressure on coach Miura became even heavier when Ho Chi Minh City FC did not know the taste of victory for 13 rounds (only draws and losses) in the middle of the season and fell to the second-to-last position. They only successfully stayed in the league when they won 12/24 points in the last 8 rounds.
That poor performance was the last straw that made the board of directors of Ho Chi Minh City Club decide to fire the Japanese coach, who was also the only foreign coach still working in V.League 2018.
According to TT&VH, Ho Chi Minh City Club will only pay 2 months of contract termination compensation to Coach Miura and the two sides have not found common ground.
The Japanese coach disagrees and is preparing to take the case to court.
