The EXTRA (Extended Range Artillery) guided rocket system, jointly developed by IMI (Israel Military Industries) and the MLM Systems Division of IAI (Israel Aircraft Industries), was first introduced at the 2005 Paris Air Show.

IAI and IMI have combined their experience in rocket engines, warheads and guidance systems to develop EXTRA and use the latest advances in non-line-of-sight (NLOS) precision strike technology.

Artillery shells are placed in sealed containers, grouped into groups of 4 for ease of maintenance, storage and saving. When ready for combat, the containers carrying shells will be placed on fixed launchers or launcher vehicles for immediate mobility.

The EXTRA bullet is 3.97 m long, 300 mm in diameter, has a launch weight of 450 kg, carries a high-explosive warhead or cluster munition weighing 125 kg, and has a range of up to 150 km with a deviation of less than 10 m.

The artillery shell has a built-in military GPS guidance system, with the ability to automatically adjust the trajectory using propulsion modules. Target data is loaded before firing and after firing, the shell will automatically adjust its flight path, accurately hitting the target.

The advantage of the EXTRA rocket artillery is that it can accurately destroy landing ports, even enemy landing ships if the reconnaissance element is good. The entire enemy force will have no chance of survival if it is within the range of EXTRA's fire.

Furthermore, when deploying the EXTRA battlefield system, it does not require the deployment of an accompanying guidance radar, so the battlefield deployment will not be complicated and will take less time.

Currently, the EXTRA guided rocket artillery is in service with the coastal artillery and missile force of the Vietnam People's Navy.
