The occupational structure in rural areas is undergoing a significant transformation.

(Baonghean.vn) - The occupational structure in rural areas is shifting in a positive direction, increasing the number and proportion of households engaged in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries - these are the basic assessments following the 2016 general survey of rural areas, agriculture, and fisheries in Nghe An province.

The 2016 General Census of Rural Areas, Agriculture, and Fisheries collected basic information on agriculture, forestry, salt production, fisheries, and rural areas to serve the development of plans and strategies for the agricultural and rural sectors.

This is also an opportunity to evaluate the results of implementing some contents of national target programs on industrialization and modernization of agriculture and rural areas and building new rural areas, while building data on agriculture and rural areas to serve in-depth research and sample selection for some surveys and other statistical requirements.

The content of the General Census focuses on the following areas: Information on the current state of agricultural production; information on rural areas; and information on rural residents.

The total number of rural, agricultural, and fisheries households in the province as of July 1, 2016, was 693,991, of which 668,214 were in rural areas. The occupational structure in rural areas has changed rapidly in a positive direction: the number and proportion of agricultural, forestry, and fisheries households have decreased; while the number and proportion of industrial and service households have increased. The total number of agricultural, forestry, and fisheries households in rural areas is 440,710, accounting for 66% of the total number of households; the number of industrial and service households is 175,913; the proportion of both industrial, construction, and service households has increased by 5.4%.

According to assessments, the structural transformation of rural households throughout the province during the period 2011-2016 occurred more rapidly and significantly than in previous periods.

Concluding the conference, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Dinh Viet Hong acknowledged the efforts of all levels and sectors in closely following the guidelines, plans, and directives to implement the General Census. The quality of the survey forms has improved compared to previous surveys. Census enumerators directly conducted surveys at households and reviewed administrative procedures; 100% of districts submitted quick reports, preliminary reports, and progress reports on the General Census implementation on time and according to the prescribed forms.

At the same time, the Head of the Provincial Steering Committee for Rural, Agricultural and Fisheries Survey also highlighted some lessons learned, such as: It is necessary to concentrate all resources, the support of the Party committees and government, and the decisive involvement of the entire political system; and to strictly implement all stages according to the plan and schedule.

At the conference, the Provincial People's Committee awarded Certificates of Commendation to 3 collectives and 9 individuals for their outstanding achievements in the 2016 General Survey of Rural Areas, Agriculture and Fisheries.
