'Broker' who illegally brings workers to foreign countries gets sentenced
(Baonghean.vn) - Although she was not licensed by a competent State agency to advise and send Vietnamese workers abroad to work, Nhung colluded with a subject to advise, collect money and send 4 workers to China to work illegally.
On March 22, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Xen Thi Nhung (born 1964), residing in Tam Dinh commune (Tuong Duong) for the crime of "Organizing others to flee abroad".
Around 2013, Nhung crossed the border to work in China and met a Vietnamese man named Minh, who worked at the same company. At the end of 2013, Nhung returned to Vietnam.
Around the beginning of 2015, Minh called Nhung to ask for people to go to China to work. The two sides agreed that Nhung would find people, advise them and take them to Hanoi, where Minh's people would pick them up and organize them to cross the border to China to work.

The job was arranged by Minh, the salary was about 9 million VND/month. Travel expenses were 6 million VND, deposit 3 million VND in advance, the remaining amount would be deducted from the salary when the worker went to China to work. For each case of going to China, Minh promised to give Nhung 300,000 VND. After hearing Minh's promise, Nhung agreed.
At the same time, Nhung happened to meet some people. Knowing that these people were looking for jobs, Nhung exchanged information as Minh had said before. A week later, Nhung guided 4 people to go to Hanoi to go to China.
After working for 4 months, the workers were discovered by Chinese authorities and detained for about 2 months.illegal laborBy November 2015, the workers were deported back to Vietnam.
From the workers' statements, Xen Thi Nhung was arrested.
At court, the defendant admitted to the crime as charged in the indictment. Defendant Nhung stated that because she was greedy for the profit of 300,000 VND if she successfully consulted a worker, she followed Minh's instructions.
Attending the trial, the workers stated that due to difficult circumstances they went to China, but the work was not as promised by the broker.
Considering the aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the panel sentenced Xen Thi Nhung to 18 months in prison for the crime of "Organizing others to flee abroad".
