Kim Yo Jong may no longer be an alternate member of the Politburo, although she still retains her position as first deputy director of the Propaganda and Agitation Department, according to North Korea observers.

Kim Yo Jong did not appear in North Korean state media reports about events attended by alternate members of the country's Politburo on April 14 and 15. This could be a sign that leader Kim Jong Un's younger sister has been demoted, according to NK News.

According to analyst Minyoung Lee of NK Pro, this report "seems to indicate that Kim Yo Jong may have lost her position as an alternate member of the Politburo but still retained her position as first vice director of the Propaganda and Agitation Department."

"If she loses that seat, it will likely be during the party's personnel reshuffle, which is after she attends the Politburo plenary session," Mr. Lee said.

Ms. Kim was one of the prominent North Korean officials who appeared with Mr. Kim Jong Un at the second US-North Korea summit in Hanoi in February 2019.
