Mong girl honored by Forbes Vietnam
Tan Thi Shu - cMong ethnic girl(born in 1986) only studied up to grade 10 and never attended any business training class, was voted by Forbes Vietnam magazine as one of the 3 outstanding faces under 30 years old in Vietnam.
SaPa O'Chau Company founded and operated by Shu has made a name for itself in many activities in Sapa.
Born into a poor family with many children in Lao Chai commune (Sapa), Shu had to drop out of school. However, the smart and clever Shu did not stop. Shu learned English during her tour guide days, learning about the history of the H'Mong ethnic group to introduce to domestic and foreign tourists.

In 2009, Shu founded Sapa O' Chau Company when she was only 23 years old. The businesswoman shared: "I founded the company with the dream of helping children in the same situation as me. Along with that, they will learn English, life skills and become tour guides. They also do not have to drop out of school."
The company, directed by Shu, specializes in providing homestay services, organizing jungle tours, selling brocades, and opening O' Chau Sapa cafe. Starting from scratch, the company now has a revenue of billions of dong each year. All of Thu's business investments are aimed at creating a healthy environment, helping disadvantaged ethnic minority children have a place to eat, live, and study.
“Most of the children here do not know English or Mandarin, so they face quite a big barrier in life. I want to give them a chance to study and change their own lives.”
Thanks to her talent, Shu was invited to present at many tourism conferences around the world. She was the one who connected foreign volunteers to the Hmong people through community tourism.
Shu's O' Chau Company was highly appreciated by Forbes Vietnam magazine for its dynamism and innovation. Lao Chai - a remote land has become known to the world thanks to this petite Mong ethnic girl.
