'Golden girl' of Vietnamese Physics wins world's top university scholarship

Huong Thao is considered the "golden girl" of Vietnamese Physics. In 2015, while studying in grade 11 at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted (Nam Dinh), she won a gold medal at the International Physics Olympiad, being the female student with the highest achievement in the exam. The following year, Thao maintained her achievement, bringing home a gold medal for the entire delegation and the title of Best Female Student in the Asia-Pacific region.

In December 2016, Thao was one of three people honored to receive the Third Class Labor Medal awarded by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc. Recently, she was one of the 10 outstanding young faces of 2016, honored by the Central Youth Union.

After graduating from high school, Dinh Thi Huong Thao "joined the army" in the Physics department of the University of Natural Sciences (Hanoi) and quietly fulfilled her dream of studying abroad.

GrandfatherDinh Viet Hien, Thao's father, once sharedSince childhood, whatever she did, the eldest daughter was determined to succeed. Thao loved natural subjects from grade 5-6 and studied Physics, then took the entrance exam to Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted with the highest score.

"Every day I study until 11-12 at night. Many days I stay up later, my parents have to urge me to sleep. My health has been poor since I was little because I was hospitalized, injected with many antibiotics, making me weak and unable to grow," the petite father said about his daughter, nicknamed "Skinny Thao".

As a restaurant owner, kNot having much knowledge to help their child, Mr. Hien and his wife can only encourage and create all conditions for Thao to wholeheartedly study and satisfy her passion.
