(Baonghean.vn) - As the weekend classes end, the kindergarten teacher in Huoi Pung village takes the children across the stream to return home. Some teachers have to travel all day to get back to their families every weekend.

On Friday morning, March 15th, kindergarten teacher Kha Thi Phu at the Huoi Pung village school in Huu Khuong commune (Tuong Duong district) taught her last class of the week. At noon, after dismissing the children, she would walk or hitch a ride on a motorbike to the ferry terminal about 2km from the school. From there, Ms. Phu would take a boat for another two hours to return to Thuong Luu terminal near the Ban Ve hydroelectric dam. Photo: Huu Vi

This weekend, only Ms. Kha Thi Phu was teaching at Huoi Pung school. Another teacher working at the school had to substitute for a colleague who was sick, so the preschool children were temporarily sharing a classroom. Photo: Huu Vi

Ms. Kha Thi Phu shared: “I’ve worked in Huu Khuong commune for 3 years, but this is the first time I’ve come to teach in Huoi Pung. Here, not only is transportation difficult, but there’s also no phone signal. Therefore, contacting my family is very difficult.” (Photo: Huu Vi)

The Huồi Pủng school currently has 20 students, taught by two teachers, Kha Thị Phú and Nguyễn Thị Cẩm Xuyên. During recess, representatives from the village management board and parents occasionally appear. Huồi Pủng is the most remote village in Hữu Khuông commune, and its residents are quite friendly towards the teachers working at the school. This is also a source of encouragement for the teachers who work far from home. Photo: Hữu Vi

Many parents are preoccupied with making a living and don't have time to pick up their children, so after school, teacher Phu has to take each student home individually. Photo: Huu Vi

In the village, six students have to cross a small stream to get to class. After school, the teacher has to carry the youngest children across the stream. Photo: Huu Vi

Ms. Nguyen Thi Xoan, Principal of Huu Khuong Kindergarten, shared: “Currently, the school has 16 staff and teachers distributed across 7 school locations, with 155 students. In 3 remote villages – Huoi Pung, Xan, and Huoi Co – teachers have to travel by motorboat to school. Currently, Huu Khuong Kindergarten is still short 2 teachers. Difficult road conditions are also one of the reasons why many people are hesitant to work in this most isolated commune in Tuong Duong district.” (Photo: Huu Vi)
