What opportunities are there for SLNA in the story of youth training?
(Baonghean.vn) - The decision by VFF that from the 2021 season, all three tournaments, V.League 2020, First Division and Second Division, will have 14 teams will make the domestic player market much more exciting. This is also an opportunity for SLNA to do player business.
According to a VFF official, next year the First and Second Divisions will need approximately 90 players. The Vietnamese player market will become more vibrant and the new Technical Director Duc Thang needs to soon have a player business strategy, which has been fragmented for a long time.
The time has come
People have seen how Mr. Hien, in addition to having the dominant Hanoi FC, also "wholesale" the Saigon and Hong Linh Ha Tinh teams. The transfer amount was kept secret, but it was certainly not a cheap price. Mr. Duc also did the same thing when he lent the Ham Rong stadium to CAND and 9 young HAGL players to play in the Second Division.

Finding an “outlet” for young players not only helps the club have funds, but also creates an input brand when recruiting. Only recruiting mainly from Nghe An districts, so that each year only 1-2 players are promoted to the first team, makes SLNA's academy weak in youth training. In fact, SLNA still lends players to teams, but it is not as strategic and effective as many other clubs.
In particular, the "export" of players from SLNA's academy does not have a leader of sufficient caliber, so there is no budget to pay salaries and attract good teachers like other training academies. Being limited for "teachers and students" will make it difficult for SLNA to compete with Viettel, PVF, Hanoi, HAGL, and even neighboring Ha Tinh.
Currently, SLNA is one of the few training centers in Vietnam that has all the U10, U11, U12, U13, U14, U15, U17, U19 and U21 SLNA teams with over 200 players. However, the Nghe An club lacks a consistent training strategy with the goal of providing players for the first team and player business. With professional clubs, the Technical Director will "order" the youth team for the positions that the first team needs, proactively contacting to lend and sell positions that the first team has excess.
Currently, SLNA's first team has 4 reserve goalkeepers including: Van Hung (1992), Tran Van Tien (1994), Duong Van Cuong (1999), Ho Van Tu (1995) and Ho Viet Dai (2000), not to mention behind them are U19 Vietnam goalkeeper Nguyen Van Ba (2001), U16 Vietnam national team player Nguyen Van Viet, Dang Xuan Son but still have to spend money to buy Van Hoang (Saigon). If not resolved quickly, SLNA will not only face a shortage crisis but also fall into a surplus crisis of goalkeepers.
The role of the new Technical Director
The fact that SLNA has not been able to train quality central midfielders for the first team for many years still has no explanation. With the current management model, the rights and responsibilities of young coaches in providing players for the first team have not created motivation for them to stick with the profession.

There is a gap in income between the first team's coaching staff and the young coaches, so to stay in the profession, many coaches have to work part-time at community football centers. How to use the 20 billion VND/year budget for youth training from the budget to be most effective is a big problem for SLNA.
Compared to other training centers with foreign coaches, the opportunities for teachers at SLNA to learn and improve their training skills are narrower. The curriculum rarely changes, and the tactical strategies are not diverse, so SLNA U21 teams often do not have good results like other training centers.
It has been a long time since SLNA had a Technical Director, this is an opportunity for this training center to reorganize and renew itself. With the qualifications and experience of being the head coach of SLNA, Duc Thang is a deliberate choice for this new position.
In particular, finding solutions for players who have been with Vinh Stadium for 7-10 years must be considered an important issue and thoroughly researched. Taking advantage of the time when the First and Second Division player market will be bustling in the coming time to "export" players is not in the plan./.
