Sunroofs are popular with many customers when choosing to buy a car because they make the car more fashionable, create a spacious cabin effect and shimmering virtual living angles.

However, having a sunroof also brings inconveniences that buyers should consider whether to choose or not.

Enemies in hot weather

In conventional cars, the ceiling is always equipped with a structure of many layers of thick material to help insulate better. This will help protect the passenger compartment from the heat, especially in the summer.

However, due to the lack of insulation, the sunroof can easily cause the temperature inside the car to increase, especially when parked in direct sunlight for a long time. Even when moving under the sun, the temperature on the ceiling of the car is always significantly higher even when the air conditioner is turned on at full blast.

Rain leak

Summer in Vietnam is not only the intense heat with high temperatures but also sudden rains. Hot weather can cause the rubber seals of the sunroof to crack, lose elasticity and lead to cracks. These cracks will create an opportunity for rain to fall inside the car.

Leaking rain not only affects users but also easily causes mold and damages vehicle equipment and interior.

Cause rust

In addition to being soaked by rainwater, the crevices under the sunroof are also ideal places for water and moisture to accumulate. High humidity will gradually corrode the metal, leading to the appearance of rust patches.

To repair, the car owner may have to remove the entire sunroof, weld it, and apply anti-rust paint. This results in a significant expense.

High maintenance costs

One of the advantages of a sunroof is its convenience in being able to lift and slide forward and backward. However, this complex structure leads to the possibility of major errors if not used and maintained regularly. Therefore, the cost of repair and maintenance is also very high and expensive.

Noisy

Not only does a car with a sunroof lose its insulation, it also loses its metal base and soundproofing material. So if you hate noise and are afraid of noise while driving, opening the sunroof while driving will make you uncomfortable.

Some cars are modified to reduce noise, but this means the car's system becomes more complex and the cost increases accordingly.

More fuel efficient

Adding a sunroof can increase the weight of the car by 20-25kg compared to a car without a sunroof. The steel frame system also has to bear more force and the car will consume more fuel.

In addition, opening the sunroof while driving is similar to opening the car window while driving on the highway, which will increase the vehicle's resistance, thereby consuming more fuel.

Not only that, this more or less changes the vehicle's center of gravity, affecting the vehicle's ability to maintain balance when cornering, especially for inexperienced drivers.

High cost

To own a luxury car with a sunroof, consumers have to spend a larger amount of money than a car without a sunroof. However, that is only the product price. During use, fuel costs, repairs, maintenance... for this part also consume a part of the car owner's budget.

In case of broken glass or punctured roof panel, it can cost up to tens of millions of dong to repair.
