After killing her husband, Sam hastily organized a funeral to conceal her crime, but the police still discovered it.
On January 4th, the police in Hoang Su Phi district (Ha Giang province) announced that they had issued an indictment against Lu Thi Sam (36 years old, residing in Chien Pho commune) for the crime of murder.

According to the police, at around 8 PM on December 20, 2017, Lu Van Vinh (36 years old) was drinking alcohol at a neighbor's house when his wife, Sam, came over to visit. Vinh asked his wife for money but was refused, so he became angry.
During the struggle, Vinh slapped and hit his wife many times, only stopping when others intervened. He was then struck multiple times on the head with a wooden hammer by Sam, causing his death the following morning.
The wife did not report the incident to the police but instead held a funeral for her husband according to local customs. Finding the situation unusual, the Hoang Su Phi District Police exhumed the body and determined that the victim had a fractured skull.
