Con Cuong raises climbing fish for commercial purposes in earthen ponds.
(Baonghean.vn) - In 2017, the Agricultural and Fisheries Extension Center of Con Cuong district deployed commercial climbing fish farming in earthen ponds in Luc Da, Con Cuong.
Mr. La Dinh Hoi's family, Tan Hop village, Luc Da commune, was chosen to implement the model on a water surface area of 700 m2.2. Implemented since May 2017, Mr. Hoi's family received 100% support for fish fry and 60% of industrial feed for fish farming from the provincial Agricultural Extension Center. The total support value is over 18 million VND. With a stocking density of 1.5 fish/m2, after more than 1 month of initial farming, the fish grew relatively well, with a survival rate of over 80%.

To create more food sources for the fish, in addition to industrial food, his family also feeds them golden apple snails. After catching the snails, they are cleaned and crushed. Every day, he feeds them 5-7 kg of snails.

Currently, climbing perch on the market costs from 110,000 to 130,000 VND/kg. Thus, it is estimated that the commercial climbing perch model at Mr. Hoi's household brings in revenue of nearly 100 million VND. After deducting expenses, Mr. Hoi can earn a profit of 70 million VND.
The success of the model will open up a new direction in aquaculture for farmers in mountainous districts like Con Cuong.
