Con Cuong actively participates in building new rural areas.
(Baonghean)We visited Yen Khe commune (Con Cuong district) and witnessed the vibrant atmosphere of the new rural development program. In To village, many roads were being concreted by the villagers. Mr. Lo Dinh To, despite his advanced age and frail health, still participated in the road construction, saying: "For the past week, our villagers have been working on the road. It's tiring, but we're excited because soon we'll have a concrete road leading into the village." Ms. Vi Thi Hoa stopped mixing concrete with a shovel and said: "Our team has 11 people. We carry cement and water to mix the mortar. We gather at 6 a.m. to mix the mortar and only rest at noon. In the afternoon, we work on the road, and only go home in the evening. Everyone is participating in the new rural development program with a high spirit of volunteerism."
It is known that the village roads in Yen Khe are all paved with concrete, meeting standards and measuring 3.5 meters wide. Previously, the roads were narrow and muddy. In response to the government's policy, the villagers enthusiastically donated land, removed fences, and some even demolished buffalo sheds and kitchens to donate land for road construction. For example, Mr. To's family donated over 150 square meters of garden land, and Mr. Luong Dinh Hao donated over 70 square meters of garden land... The head of Nua village (Yen Khe), Mr. Lo Dinh Nhuong, said that because they clearly saw the benefits of widening village roads and alleys, many families voluntarily donated land without demanding any conditions. "The roads in the alleys used to be only over 2 meters wide, but now they have been widened to 5 meters, making it much easier to transport agricultural products like acacia trees and tea," shared Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hoa, from Trung Yen village (Yen Khe), who donated over 300 square meters of land for rural roads.

Mr. Vi Van Dau, Chairman of the People's Committee of Yen Khe commune, said: Yen Khe has 9 villages, mainly inhabited by the Thai ethnic group. The people's lives are still facing many difficulties, so the construction of new rural areas mainly relies on the people's efforts, specifically their labor and financial contributions to purchase sand, stone, and gravel. Yen Khe's criterion is to complete construction as soon as land is cleared. To date, the commune has mobilized people to donate 17,371 m2 of land. Nearly 300 m2 of sand and gravel have been laid, nearly 9,000 m3 of earth and stone have been excavated and filled, and nearly 2 km of roads have been paved with concrete. People in all 9 villages have simultaneously participated in road construction, and it is planned that by the end of 2012, all 9/9 villages will have concrete roads. In addition, the commune has attracted investment for the construction of projects such as the commune People's Committee headquarters worth 2.5 billion VND, the construction of a new central market, and by the end of 2012, the construction of a gravity-fed water system for domestic use and rice irrigation worth over 10 billion VND will begin.
To date, the people of the entire district have donated 66,602 m2 of land for the construction of internal village roads, including 45,678 m2 in Lang Khe commune and 3,000 m2 in Cam Lam commune. Nearly 30 km of internal village roads have been widened and upgraded, including 19 km in Chau Khe commune and 1 km in Lang Khe commune. 13.4 km of new roads have been constructed, and 42 km of traffic corridors have been cleared, with Chau Khe commune alone accounting for 22 km and Lang Khe commune 4 km… 7,800 m2 of land has also been cleared for public welfare facilities. Not to mention, the district has also renovated 18.7 km of irrigation canals in the fields, such as Chau Khe with 5.6 km of canals, Mon Son with 10 km... After two years of implementing the new rural development program, 12 communes in Con Cuong district have achieved the following results: 1 commune has met 8 criteria, 3 communes have met 7 criteria, 5 communes have met 5-6 criteria, and 3 communes have met 3-4 criteria.
Besides road construction, Con Cuong is also actively developing many new economic models to improve economic efficiency, such as growing shallots in Yen Khe, growing green pumpkins in Luc Da, and raising black pigs in Chi Khe... It is believed that with the active participation of the people, the high level of consensus in donating land for transportation and the economic models after planning, the new rural development program in Con Cuong will achieve good results.
