Con Cuong: Happy tea season, good price

(Baonghean.vn) - At this time, tea growers in Con Cuong are entering the harvest season with excitement, because this year's tea crop is good, the price of fresh tea buds is much higher than last year.

Tea growers in Con Cuong said that this year, tea prices have increased significantly compared to before, and tea can be imported immediately after being picked and paid for immediately. For generations, people in Yen Khe, Bong Khe, Chi Khe communes have relied on tea as their main source of income, so there is nothing happier than seeing tea prices increase.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hien, Tan Lap village, Bong Khe commune, excitedly said: My family grows 5 sao, each time the family harvests over 2 tons of fresh tea buds. But this batch of tea buds is expected to yield higher than previous batches thanks to favorable weather.

After harvesting tea, Con Cuong Tea Enterprise and some traders from other places come to buy at prices ranging from 3,700 to 3,800 VND/kg. At this time last year, tea prices were 2,600 VND/kg. With tea prices like this, tea growers actually make a good profit.

Yen Khe is one of the key tea growing communes in Con Cuong district, the whole commune has 223 hectares of commercial tea. The commune government has also coordinated with Con Cuong Tea Enterprise to find outlets for the people. These days, on the tea hills, local people are focusing on harvesting tea.

Mr. Dinh Van Thang, Trung Chinh village, Yen Khe commune, has more than 4 sao of tea in business for 7 years, and is currently harvesting the first buds of this season. Mr. Thang happily said that not only is the price of tea high, but the tea purchasing facilities pay immediately, without any debt. Therefore, tea growers have daily income during this time.

According to him, tea growers have a stable income every year. When the tea trees are ready to be harvested, it is not too difficult, just weeding, fertilizing, and harvesting by machine. If this purchase price is maintained for a long time, tea growers will be very excited.

Mr. Vi Van Dau, Chairman of Yen Khe Commune People's Committee, said: "We have identified two main trees for the people in the area, which are orange trees and tea trees. Yen Khe Commune is one of the localities with the largest tea area in the district. Besides exploiting the tea area for business, we are currently implementing new planting. Thanks to the development of tea trees, people's lives have been greatly improved, this is the condition for us to reach the new rural destination."

Con Cuong district currently has nearly 355 hectares of commercial tea, of which 300 hectares have been harvested; concentrated in communes such as Bong Khe, Yen Khe, Chi Khe.

With the current favorable weather, local farmers can harvest a crop of tea every month, with an average yield of 15 tons/ha. If the purchase price is stable like now, it will be at least 60 million VND/ha/year.

Currently, there is Con Cuong Tea Processing Enterprise in the area, with an operating capacity of 12-15 tons of fresh tea/day. The enterprise has regulated prices for the people, not allowing traders to force down prices like before.

A good harvest and stable prices are the dream of tea growers. Tea not only helps stabilize the lives of people in the mountainous areas of Con Cuong district, but some households have even become rich from growing tea.
