Daughter of South Korean President's close friend arrested in Denmark

The daughter of Choi Soon-sil's friend, Chung Yoo-ra, was arrested on charges of illegal residence in Denmark.

Danish police have just arrested Ms. Chung Yoo-ra, daughter of Ms. Choi Soon-sil, close friend of South Korean President Park Geun-hye and also the central figure in the scandal that has rocked South Korean politics in recent days.

South Korean police said the suspect was arrested on charges of “illegally staying” in Denmark. Chung Yoo-ra is expected to be extradited to South Korea soon.

The South Korean government has also recently sought to arrest Ms. Chung Yoo-ra for her involvement in the political scandal that led to the National Assembly approving the impeachment process against President Park Geun Hye.

The South Korean independent prosecutors even asked the International Criminal Police Organization to issue a "wanted warrant" for Choi Soon-sil's daughter.

In early 2016, Ms. Chung Yoo-ra caused a stir in public opinion when it was discovered that she received "special favors" from Ewha Womans University, one of the most prestigious schools in Korea./.
