In fact, "papple" isn't actually the official name of this fruit. Breeders gave it the code name T109, and the official name was chosen just before it appeared in stores.
Shazad Rehman, a fruit expert at the retail giant M&S, said, "This is the newest and most exciting fruit in the world in years."
“We know customers always like to try new flavors, and that’s what motivates us to breed new fruit varieties. We hope that our apple and pear products will attract consumer interest,” Shazad added.
The T109 pear variety, grown in New Zealand, is a hybrid of European and Asian pears. As a result, the T109 resembles an apple.
“T109 tastes fantastic, it’s perfect and could replace apples someday.” M&S hopes to be growing this hybrid in the UK by 2015.
The selling price of T109 is approximately 34,000 VND per fruit.
