Drug addicts build shacks in the forest to sell drugs
(Baonghean.vn) - Tho Va Phia and his family moved to Laos to live but crossed the border back to Vietnam to sell drugs to addicts. Phia chose a deep forest area and set up a camp to carry out drug trafficking.
On March 12, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Tho Va Phia (born 1970), residing in Luu Kien commune, Tuong Duong district, for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking”.
Around the end of June 2020, when Tho Va Phia was in Ban Hoa village, Muong Pec district, Xieng Khouang province (Laos), Vu Ba Ho came to discuss hiring him to transport drugs to Vietnam for sale. Ho gave Phia 2 quantities of heroin and 2 packages of pink phien to sell for 70 million VND, promising to pay 5 million Lao kip (equivalent to nearly 14 million VND). Ho also gave Phia more drugs to use.

On July 2, Phia took the drugs to Nam Can village, Nam Can commune, Ky Son district, and set up a shack to sell them. During July, Phia sold drugs to many addicts with unknown addresses.
On the evening of August 5, two men with unknown origins and addresses came to Phia's shack and gave her a package of heroin and five packages of opium to sell. The two sides would calculate the payment later.
The next day, when Phia was preparing to sell drugs to customers, he was arrested by the Ky Son district police. The seized evidence was many types of drugs with a total weight of nearly 150 grams of drugs.
The investigation agency determined that Tho Va Phia also confessed to selling drugs to many subjects. However, there were no specific names, ages, or addresses, and no money was collected, so only the amount of evidence seized and the above appraisal conclusions were processed.
In court, the defendant stated that he agreed to go to Vietnam to build a hut in the forest to sell “drugs” for money. During his time living in the forest, the defendant often took out drugs to use. Regarding the promised payment, the defendant stated that he had not received any payment.
Faced with the sentence of the law, the defendant asked for leniency. For the crime of illegal drug trafficking, the People's Court sentenced Tho Va Phai to 20 years in prison.
