Long-time addict hides drugs in 'dangerous places'
(Baonghean.vn) - Having been addicted to drugs for many years, Vi Van Thon bought a large amount of drugs to use gradually. Thon hid the drugs in his underwear to bring to Quang Nam but was discovered by Nghe An police.
On November 4, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Vi Van Thon (32 years old), residing in Luong Minh commune, Tuong Duong district, for the crime of "Illegal possession of narcotics".
Vi Van Thon is a long-time drug addict. On the morning of June 2, 2021, Thon walked to the Dua village area, Luong Minh commune to buy drugs for gradual use. This addict spent 30 million VND to buy 4 packages of drugs from a Mong man of unknown origin.
At noon of the same day, Thon hid drugs in his underwear and went to Vinh city to catch a bus to Quang Nam province to look for a job.

In Vinh city, because he needed more clothes, Thon hired a taxi to go back to his friend's house in Thanh Chuong district. When the car reached Ro bridge in Thanh Chuong district, the police checked, discovered andcaught red-handed. The evidence of the case is more than 113 grams of various drugs.
At the trial, the defendant admitted to the crime as charged in the indictment. The defendant stated that because of his severe drug addiction, he bought a lot of drugs to use gradually during his time working as a gold miner in Quang Nam.
Regarding the 30 million VND used to buy “white goods”, the defendant stated that he had obtained it through many years of savings. The defendant asked the court to consider reducing his sentence due to his difficult family circumstances.
After considering the aggravating and mitigating circumstances of the case, the People's Court sentenced defendant Vi Van Thon to 15 years and 6 months in prison for illegal possession of narcotics./.
