The indictment shows that, through social relationships, Trung became acquainted with Nguyen Thi Giang (born in 1981, residing in Vinh City).

On the evening of May 25, 2024, Giang called Trung to ask if he wanted to buy drugs to bring to his house. This was the amount of drugs that Giang had bought from a man in Nghi Duc commune, Vinh city a few days earlier for 40 million VND.

Then, Giang went to Trung’s house and sold him a package of crystal meth for 3 million VND. Trung promised to pay him back when he had the money.

Trung took out a small amount of the drugs he bought to use, and hid the rest in a potted plant in front of his house to use gradually.

The following day, the Cua Lo Town Police Investigation Agency executed an emergency detention order and searched Nguyen Dinh Trung's residence, seizing more than 4.2 grams of drugs.

At the trial, the defendant admitted his crime and expressed remorse. He said he bought drugs because he was addicted. He asked the court to consider a lighter sentence so he could return home soon to take care of his two young children.

The panel of judges determined that the defendant’s actions violated the law and should be dealt with severely. However, it is also necessary to consider some mitigating circumstances for the defendant, such as his honest confession, remorse, and his mother being awarded the Second Class Resistance Medal by the State.

Considering the case as a whole, the panel sentenced Nguyen Dinh Trung to 4 years in prison for illegal possession of narcotics. As for the woman named Giang, she was prosecuted for illegal drug trafficking and the investigation agency has separated her into a separate case.
