Despite having been taken away beforeaddictionDespite being forced to, Trung still couldn't break free from his addiction to heroin. He continued to buy drugs to satisfy his personal needs.

According to the indictment, Trung became acquainted with Nguyen Thi Giang (born in 1981, residing in Vinh City) through social connections.

On the evening of May 25, 2024, Giang called Trung to ask if he wanted to buy drugs so she could deliver them to his house. This was the same amount of drugs Giang had bought a few days earlier from a man in Nghi Duc commune, Vinh City, for 40 million VND.

Later, Giang went to Trung's house and sold him a package of methamphetamine for 3 million dong. Trung promised to pay him back when he had the money.

Trung used a small amount of the drugs he bought, and hid the rest in a potted plant in front of his house for later use.

The following day, the Cua Lo Town Police Investigation Agency executed an emergency arrest warrant and searched Nguyen Dinh Trung's residence, seizing over 4.2 grams of narcotics.

At the trial, the defendant admitted to the crime and expressed remorse. The defendant stated that due to addiction, he bought drugs on credit for personal use. He requested the court to consider mitigating circumstances so that he could return home to care for his two young children.

The panel of judges determined that the defendant's actions violated the law and therefore required strict punishment. However, they also considered several mitigating circumstances, such as honest confession, remorse, and the fact that the defendant's mother was awarded the Second Class Resistance Medal by the State.

After a comprehensive review of the case, the panel of judges sentenced Nguyen Dinh Trung to 4 years in prison for illegally possessing narcotics. As for the woman named Giang, she was prosecuted for illegally buying and selling narcotics, and the investigating agency has separated this into a separate case.
