Son trafficked drugs, hid 'goods' in mother's house
(Baonghean.vn) - After buying the drugs, Hai hid them in his mother's house. When the police searched the house and discovered the contraband, the mother was surprised and panicked.
On May 17, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened the first instance trial of defendant Lo Van Hai (born 1985), residing in Kim Son town, Que Phong district, for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking", and Lang Thanh Quyen (born 1999), residing in Chau Binh commune, Quy Chau district, for the crime of "Illegal possession of drugs".

Both defendants were drug addicts. Around the beginning of October 2022, Hai went to work on the hill and met a Mong man who introduced him to drugs. On November 5, 2022, Hai returned to meet this man and bought 7 million VND worth of drugs, then brought them back to hide at his mother's house.
Two days later, Hai sold part of the drugs he bought to Lang Thanh Quyen for 10 million VND.
After taking out some drugs to use, Quyen took the "goods" and walked down to the highway to catch a bus home, but was arrested by the police.
Based on Quyen’s testimony, the police arrested Lo Van Hai. Searching the house where Hai’s mother was staying, the police discovered two packages of drugs that the subject had previously divided into small pieces to hide.
The investigation agency determined that Hai must be responsible for the act of buying and selling more than 45 grams of drugs. Quyen must be criminally responsible for the act of illegally possessing more than 38 grams of drugs.
In addition, both of them also confessed that around the beginning of November 2022, Hai sold Quyen a package of heroin for 2 million VND for use.
At the trial, the two defendants admitted their crimes and were both drug addicts.
Hai confessed that after buying the drugs, he brought them to his mother’s house to hide them to avoid the authorities. The act of bringing the drugs to his mother’s house to hide them surprised and frightened his mother.
Defendant Quyen said he bought the drugs to use gradually because he was addicted to drugs. The two defendants expressed their sincere attitude in their statements, repented, and asked the court to reduce their sentences.
After considering the role of each defendant in the case, the People's Court sentenced Lo Van Hai to 16 years in prison for illegal drug trafficking, and Lang Thanh Quyen to 10 years in prison for illegal drug possession.
