Martyr Le Duc Lam's son was brought by his mother to Air Brigade 918 to visit his father's comrades more than a year after his father's death.

"The boy from the sky" is the nickname given to Le Duc Dung by the community. He is the son of Senior Lieutenant Le Duc Lam, one of nine pilots who died on the CASA-212 reconnaissance aircraft numbered 8983. The aircraft crashed in the waters of Bach Long Vi (Hai Phong) while searching for the whereabouts of the Su-30MK2 pilot in June 2016. |
Before his last flight, Lieutenant Lam had no time to prepare anything. He only had 1.5 million VND, saved in a piggy bank for his soon-to-be-born son. When her husband died, Nga was 6 months pregnant with Dung. |
Dung was born on September 12, 2016, three months after his father died. Today, he turns one year old. |
Ms. Do Thuy Nga took her child to Air Brigade 918 (stationed at Gia Lam airport, Hanoi) to visit Mr. Lam's comrades. |
Colonel Ngo Quang Trung, a close comrade of Lieutenant Lam, was happy to see his "foolish nephew" son growing up healthy. |
Lieutenant Colonel Le Quang Hoa, Squadron Leader of CASA-212 Squadron, shared: "Seeing Dung grow up healthy every day, we are all at ease. Up in heaven, comrade Lam is surely always watching over and blessing our son." |
The boy was taken around the Air Brigade, in the arms of his father's comrades. |
Dung was allowed by his uncles to go into the cockpit of the CASA plane - where Lam's father used to work. |
When he was alive, when he found out his wife was pregnant with a son, Lieutenant Lam wished that his son would follow in his father's footsteps and become an air force soldier. |
A year ago, hearing the news that her husband had died and his body had not been found broke Ms. Nga. The birth of baby Dung gave the mother and wife the strength to continue on her path in life. |
"Looking into my son's eyes, I see his image. My son and I will courageously move forward. I believe he will still be with me and my son," she said. |
The moment I was born, my father was not there/ But my face had my father's image there/ With the same smile, gentle eyes like a rabbit/ In my sleep, I thought it was my father's image... |
