Luu Quang Vu's son never overcame the pain of losing his family.
With tears in his eyes, MC Luu Minh Vu hesitated many times and sat silently during the conversation about Xuan Quynh's father and mother.
Luu Minh Vu was once famous as the MC of the program.Choose the right price. In contrast to his lively and humorous appearance on television, he appeared at the press conference introducing the poetry, music and drama night commemorating the 30th anniversary of the death of the two artists Luu Quang Vu - Xuan Quynh with a pensive expression. Throughout the program, he sat hunched over, his head down and rarely smiled while listening to everyone recalling memories of the day the accident took the lives of his father, mother and younger brother Luu Quynh Tho.
Minh Vu is the son of poet and playwright Luu Quang Vu and his first wife To Uyen. After his parents separated, he lived with Luu Quang Vu and Xuan Quynh from his junior year of high school until they passed away. Minh Vu's home name was Kit and he often called Xuan Quynh "mother".

The male MC once shared with the press that he did not want to talk about the passing of his father, mother and younger brother anymore. Before the press conference took place, he refused to sit in the delegate seat, but because his uncle persuaded him and because he was a son, he finally agreed. Although he knew all the content that the guests shared, he was still very sad when the old memories were recalled.
On August 29, 1988, playwright Luu Quang Vu and his wife, poet Xuan Quynh, and their youngest son Luu Quynh Tho passed away in an accident in Hai Duong, on their way from Hai Phong to Hanoi. That year, Minh Vu was only 18, an age that he thought was old enough to preserve memories but not old enough to overcome the pain of losing 3 relatives at the same time. Minh Vu still clearly remembered that his younger brother Quynh Tho was about to go to school, so his father decided to rent a private car, combined with taking his mother and Tho on vacation in Do Son while on a business trip to Hai Phong. No one expected that they would leave forever after that trip.
"I have never overcome the pain of losing my family because it is too great. That sadness haunts me, lingers, and never goes away," Minh Vu said hesitantly. Anything in daily life reminds him of the past. Every time he goes to the gate of a hospital, he remembers the poemWhite timeof Quynh's mother and the days he visited her in the Viet-Xo Friendship Hospital. Minh Vu tried many times to forget, but just by listening to a poem, watching a play or encountering images associated with the past, all the memories that seemed to have subsided came flooding back. Minh Vu no longer lives in the house on Hue Street, he only keeps it as a souvenir because every time he returns, he always feels lost in it.

Throughout the conversation, Minh Vu could not hide the sadness and confusion in his red, teary eyes. He hesitated many times when talking about memories. For him, 30 years have passed in the blink of an eye. The happy memories of the house with his parents and siblings in Hue Street (Hanoi) as well as the shock of losing his loved ones always linger in his mind. The saying: "Well, that's fate, there's nothing I can do" was repeated by him after each story as a way to comfort himself. Before the sentenceAsked about the pride of having a talented father like screenwriter Luu Quang Vu, Minh Vu honestly said: "Perhaps the pain has weighed down on the pride, making me sometimes think, it's better that my father is a little less talented but still lives with me."
For Minh Vu, Quynh's mother is his second mother. In his memory, the poetBoat and seaalways hard-working, busy with cooking, shopping, cleaning the house. She was so thoughtful that every time she went to watch a football match, she brought a very large bag full of chairs, drinks, fans... for the whole family as if she was preparing luggage for a trip. Xuan Quynh did not distinguish between stepchildren and biological children and always cared for and looked after Minh Vu very attentively. From the time Quynh Tho grew up a little, she assigned: "The older one washes clothes for dad, the younger one washes clothes for mom" so that the siblings could learn how to work. Not only that, poet Xuan Quynh also taught Minh Vu everything from cooking to laundry with the advice: "Learn to do it so that you can serve your wife later". When he had his own family, Minh Vu also did everything in the house just like what Quynh's mother taught him.
The family of Luu Quang Vu - Xuan Quynh includes the eldest son Tuan Anh (Xuan Quynh's stepchild with her ex-husband), Minh Vu (Luu Quang Vu's stepchild with his ex-wife) and Quynh Tho (their common child). |
The male MC admitted that he is someone who lives too much in the past. Knowing that it is very painful, but after 30 years of living in grief, Minh Vu has never wanted to struggle or try to escape from the haunting thoughts. Every time he commemorates the death anniversary of his father, mother and younger brother, he feels even sadder. "I just let it be, there is nothing I can do to overcome it. It falls on my head and my family has to bear it. I just try to live truthfully, live kindly like what my father and mother expected," said Luu Quang Vu's son. However, he also feels comforted because there are many people who still mention Luu Quang Vu and Xuan Quynh as if reserving a place for them to love.
Minh Vu said he resembles his father in his gentle personality but did not inherit his father's talent for writing poetry or plays. Every time he hears someone say, "Mr. Vu's son doesn't know how to write poetry," he just laughs. Although he does not have the natural talent like his father, Minh Vu is very picky when watching plays because he always compares them with works staged when his father was alive.
