Musician Nguyen Nghiem Bang said he had heard singer My Linh perform the song Tien Quan Ca. He said: “I have also heard public opinion say that singer My Linh’s performance of Tien Quan Ca is not in line with the spirit of the National Anthem. I think that the way a National Anthem is performed should be different from a lyrical song. Maybe My Linh is used to the lyrical singing style.”

Singer My Linh's performance of the National Anthem caused controversy because of her "strange" way of singing. |
Responding to opinions that My Linh's performance of the National Anthem is suitable for today's peacetime, musician Nguyen Nghiem Bang argued:
“Although performed in times of peace, the National Anthem, when sung, still needs to maintain the solemn spirit of a battle song. The singer has not sung it in the true spirit of a National Anthem. Because it is not a normal song anymore, but a song sung by the whole country during the flag-raising ceremony. Therefore, the spirit of a National Anthem will transcend all eras.
Therefore, we cannot use the excuse that singing in peacetime must be different. In any time, the National Anthem still carries the heroic spirit of an entire country.
There is no reason to sing that song "as soft as rice paper", reducing the spirit and heroism of the National Anthem".
Another son of the late musician Van Cao, painter Van Thao, also spoke up:
“The national anthem has entered the soul of the nation. It is the song used in the flag-raising ceremony, representing the soul of the country and the nation. Every time the song is sung, it is accompanied by the red flag with a yellow star being raised, so it must be performed majestically and solemnly. The national anthem should not be used as an experiment to experiment with this or that way of singing.”
