Nghe An police coordinated to destroy a gambling ring worth over 200 billion VND, arresting 14 subjects.
(Baonghean.vn) - The Criminal Police Department (Nghe An Police) has just presided over and coordinated with related units to successfully destroy a very large-scale inter-provincial lottery gambling ring (over 200 billion VND), arresting 14 subjects.
Recently, through the work of grasping the situation, the Criminal Police Department (Nghe An Police) discovered a "Gambling" line in the form of recording lottery numbers in Nghe An province, Ninh Binh province, Hanoi city and other provinces and cities.
The subjects have many complex social relationships and operate very sophisticatedly. They often use unofficial phone numbers, phones connected to the internet, log into Zalo, Telegram applications... to receive and send lottery messages.

During the time of receiving lottery tickets, the subjects often moved to many different places, or closed the door in the house, installed surveillance cameras to avoid detection by the authorities. Determining that the activities of the gambling line above affected security and order in the locality and caused public outrage, the Criminal Police Department (Nghe An Police) directly reported to the Provincial Police Department to establish a special project to fight.
The investigation team identified the ringleaders as Dinh Thi Thao (born in 1974) and Nguyen Thi Thao (born in 1973), both residing in Hoang Mai District, Hanoi City. Directly assisting Thao and Thao were three other individuals: Vu Cong Dong (born in 1977), Le Thi Hien (born in 1986), both residing in Ninh Binh City, Ninh Binh Province, and Le Thu Huong (born in 1995), residing in Hoang Mai District, Hanoi City.
In addition, the above line also has many "sub-agents" in many provinces and cities across the country.

In Nghe An, the leader of the ring is Nguyen Thi Thu (born in 1962), residing in Nghi Loc district. In addition to Thu, the police also identified 7 other subjects in the ring including: Uong Thi Nga (born in 1963), Nguyen Song Dong (born in 1964), both residing in Vinh city; Bui Thi Hoa (born in 1957), Nguyen Van Hoa (born in 1967), Dang Thi Binh (born in 1979), Le Hai Ha (born in 1978), all residing in Nghi Loc district and Tran Van Mai (born in 1971), residing in Hung Nguyen district.

After collecting sufficient documents and evidence, from December 12 to 15, 2023, the Criminal Police Department (Nghe An Police) presided over and coordinated with professional units of the Ministry of Public Security, local police in Nghe An province; Hanoi City Police, Ninh Binh Provincial Police to simultaneously deploy 14 working groups to arrest and search the residences of 14 subjects residing in Hanoi City, Nghe An province and Ninh Binh province.
Confiscated evidence included 22 mobile phones of various types, 1 iPad, 1 notebook and many other related evidences.
Initial determination, from the time of the investigation to the time of arrest, the amount of money the subjects gambled in the form of lottery numbers was more than 200 billion VND. On December 9, 2023 alone, the total amount of money the subjects gambled was nearly 1.5 billion VND.

The successful breaking of the case in the first days of launching the campaign to suppress crime, ensuring security and order before, during and after the 2024 Lunar New Year is an outstanding achievement of the Criminal Police Department (Nghe An Police) and the units participating in the case, contributing to ensuring security and order in the area.
Currently, the Criminal Police Department, Nghe An Police have temporarily detained the above subjects for investigation and clarification and continue to verify and investigate to expand the case.
