Nghe An police seized over 930 kg of various types of drugs.

On the morning of June 19th, in Thong Thu commune, Que Phong district, the Drug Crime Investigation Department (C04 - Ministry of Public Security) coordinated with the Nghe An Provincial Police to organize a conference to disseminate information and provide training on drug prevention and control for the people of Thong Thu border commune.

At the conference, Colonel Nguyen Dich Nam, Deputy Director of the Department of Criminal Investigation of Drug Crimes, informed the public about the situation and results of drug prevention and control work in 2018 and the first six months of 2019, and emphasized that the Vietnam-Laos border continues to be considered a key and complex area for the illegal trafficking and transportation of narcotics.

In the first six months of 2019, the police force focused on combating various types of crime, uncovering and dismantling many complex drug trafficking rings and hotspots, arresting 11,497 cases involving 18,095 individuals, and seizing over 395 kg of heroin. The drug crime investigation force alone seized over 4 tons of various types of drugs, equivalent to 62% of the total amount seized in 2018.

In Nghe An province alone, during 2018 and the first six months of this year, police forces at all levels detected and arrested 1,881 cases involving 2,294 individuals for buying, possessing, transporting, and organizing the illegal use of narcotics, seizing over 930 kg of various types of drugs.

In particular, in the border district of Que Phong, the police force discovered and arrested 129 individuals, seized nearly 1 kg of heroin, over 5,000 synthetic drug pills, and nearly 4.1 kg of methamphetamine, and processed dossiers to send 139 individuals to compulsory drug rehabilitation centers.

At the conference, representatives from the C04 Department of the Nghe An Provincial Police focused on disseminating the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws and regulations on drug prevention and control; raising awareness about the harmful effects of drugs and drug abuse; and the methods and tactics used by drug criminals to encourage the public to be vigilant, actively participate in preventing, detecting, and reporting drug-related crimes, and to refrain from participating in drug abuse.
