The newspaper Nguoi Lao Dong quoted Colonel Nguyen Hong Khac - Chief of My Tho City Police as saying: "When receiving information from the people that there was a cockfighting spot and about 20 young men, the police sent Major Nguyen Van Du and Captain Le Tran Duy Huu Hanh. At that time, there were 2 police officers from My Phong commune but they had not arrived yet. When Major Du arrived, some people ran away, but there was only 1 person left so Major Du held him back.
