Man sentenced to life imprisonment for carrying backpack full of drugs.
For 10 million dong, Ho Ba Hu agreed to transport 120 packages of drugs. While carrying the backpack full of drugs, Hu was arrested along with the evidence and paid the price with a life sentence.
On September 9th, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a trial to hear the case against defendant Ho Ba Hu (34 years old), residing in Nam Can commune, Ky Son district, for the crime of..."Illegal trafficking of narcotics".
According to the indictment, at approximately 7 PM on April 8th, Hờ Bá Hử was hunting in the forest when he encountered an unknown man. This man hired Hử to transport drugs from the Thủy Điện ravine in Tiền Tiêu village, Nậm Cắn commune, to the area of National Highway 7A to deliver them to someone else. Promised a payment of 10 million VND, Hử agreed.

The man gave Hu a backpack containing drugs. Hu put the backpack on his back and then got on the motorbike driven by the man to go deliver the drugs.
At approximately 8:20 PM on the same day, when the two arrived at the trail area in Tien Tieu village, Nam Can commune, they were stopped and inspected by a task force from Mon Son Border Guard Station in coordination with other relevant agencies.
At this point, the man driving the motorbike abandoned it and fled into the forest, escaping. Hờ Bá Hử, however, was arrested along with the evidence: 120 packages of drugs weighing over 2.2 kg in total.
At the trial, the defendant admitted to the crime and expressed remorse. The defendant testified that he agreed to transport the drugs for hire because he was promised a payment of 10 million VND.
The defendant presented his difficult circumstances, stating that he was divorced and currently raising two young children, in order to request the court to consider mitigating circumstances and reduce his sentence.
The court determined that the defendant had transported a large quantity of drugs and therefore needed to be severely punished. However, it was also necessary to consider some mitigating circumstances for the defendant, such as honest confession, remorse, and the fact that the defendant's family members had contributed to the revolution.
After a comprehensive review of the case, the panel of judges sentenced the defendant Hờ Bá Hử to life imprisonment for the crime of illegally transporting narcotics.
Regarding the man who transported the drugs with the defendant, since Hử did not know his identity or background, the authorities did not have sufficient grounds to prosecute him.
