Students of class 12A2 at Thai Binh Secondary and High School in Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City, are viewing the announcement of the four subjects for the 2014 high school graduation exam on the afternoon of February 24th.

Accordingly, this year's 12th-grade students will take the graduation exam in four subjects: two compulsory subjects, Literature and Mathematics; and two elective subjects including Foreign Language, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, History, and Geography. Graduation scores will be based on the exam results and the student's academic transcript from the 12th grade.

Compared to the previously published draft, the Ministry of Education and Training has made adjustments, removing the option of making foreign languages an optional exam subject and dropping the regulation expanding the exemption from the exam to a maximum of 20%.

This option received high consensus after the recent consultation. However, according to leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training, in response to the Government's feedback, the Ministry will continue to refine the plan for reforming the high school graduation exam, to be announced at the beginning of the next school year, building upon the innovations of this year.

With the above regulation, 12th-grade students will know their graduation exam subjects one month earlier than in previous years. According to the Ministry of Education and Training, this year's high school graduation exam will still take place on June 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training leaders announced at a press conference this afternoon, in 2014 the Ministry of Education and Training will continue to organize the university entrance exam using the "three common subjects" method. Candidates who do not take the entrance exam for universities with separate admission processes can participate in the "three common subjects" exam to obtain results for university admission.

This year, the Ministry of Education and Training will abolish the minimum admission score but will instead stipulate specific criteria as minimum requirements for universities to enroll students, in order to ensure the quality of education.

The 2014 graduation exam schedule is as follows:

Day 1:

- Morning: Literature & Chemistry

- Afternoon: History + Physics

Day two:

- Morning: Math & Foreign Language

- Afternoon: Biology + Geography.
