Urgent dispatch to prevent the low-pressure system from strengthening into a storm.
The requirement is to monitor, count, notify, and guide vessels operating at sea.
On the morning of June 21, the Central Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control - National Committee for Search and Rescue issued an urgent dispatch to the Flood and Storm Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue Commands of coastal provinces and cities from Quang Ninh to Quang Ngai.
According to the Central Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting Center, at 1:00 AM this morning, the center of the tropical depression was located at approximately 17.6 degrees North latitude and 117.3 degrees East longitude, about 550km northeast of the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands. The strongest winds near the center of the tropical depression were at level 6-7, gusting to level 8-9. The forecast for the next 24 hours is that the tropical depression will change direction and move between North-Northwest and Northwest, traveling at about 10-15km per hour, and has the potential to strengthen into a typhoon. By 1:00 AM tomorrow (June 22nd), the center of the typhoon will be located at approximately 19.7 degrees North latitude and 114.8 degrees East longitude, about 410km northeast of the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands. The strongest winds near the center of the typhoon will be at level 8, gusting to level 9-10.
Due to the influence of the tropical depression, the northern part of the East Sea (including the sea area east of the Hoang Sa archipelago) will experience strong winds of force 6-7, later increasing to force 8, gusting to force 9-10, with heavy rain and thunderstorms. The sea will be rough. Additionally, due to the influence of a strong southwest wind, the sea area from Binh Thuan to Ca Mau - Kien Giang, the Gulf of Thailand, and the central and southern parts of the East Sea (including the sea area of the Truong Sa archipelago) will experience strong southwest winds of force 5, sometimes force 6, gusting to force 7, with heavy rain and thunderstorms.
To proactively respond to the tropical depression that has the potential to intensify into a storm, the Central Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control - National Committee for Search and Rescue requests the Steering Committees for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue in coastal provinces and cities from Quang Ninh to Quang Ngai to monitor, count, inform, and guide vessels operating at sea about the location, direction of movement, and development of the tropical depression so that they can proactively move out of or avoid entering the dangerous area. The dangerous area in the next one or two days is identified as the sea area north of latitude 17 degrees.
Particular attention should be paid to vessels operating in the area north of the Hoang Sa archipelago, the northern Gulf of Tonkin, and the central part of the East Sea. Regularly monitor the development of tropical depressions and storms, strictly manage the departure of vessels, and maintain constant communication with vessel owners to promptly handle any adverse situations that may arise. Maintain rescue and relief forces and equipment to be ready to respond when needed.
