The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that after more than 2 months of controlling and containing the blue ear disease in pigs nationwide, during the Lunar New Year holiday, the blue ear disease occurred in 14 communes in Que Son, Nong Son, Dai Loc, Thang Binh, Duy Xuyen, Dien Ban districts (Quang Nam province) with over 2,500 infected pigs, at risk of spreading widely throughout Quang Nam province and other localities.
The main cause of the current spread of blue ear disease is that in many localities, farmers and veterinary staff at the grassroots level, when discovering infected pigs, do not immediately report to the higher veterinary agency and local authorities, and even sell, slaughter, and consume infected pigs and pig products.
In order to quickly suppress outbreaks, prevent them from spreading widely, and contribute to stabilizing and developing livestock farming, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development requests the Chairmen of the People's Committees of provinces and cities and the Ministries and branches that are members of the National Steering Committee for Avian Influenza Prevention and Control to urgently direct the organization of extensive propaganda for livestock farmers about the risk of outbreaks of blue ear disease in the area; require that when pigs are found to have high fever, difficulty breathing, red or purple body, diarrhea or constipation, sows miscarrying, etc., they must immediately report to the authorities, district or provincial veterinary agencies for timely guidance and handling.

In addition, publicize on mass media the policy to support livestock farmers when epidemics occur so that livestock farmers are aware; organize strict control over the transportation and consumption of pigs and pig products according to regulations; strictly prohibit the sale of sick pigs and sick pig products that spread the epidemic.
For provinces with blue ear disease, the Ministry requires the organization to announce the epidemic in districts with blue ear disease outbreaks, count the pig herds and the number of each type of pig in the communes and districts with the epidemic; urgently vaccinate and thoroughly surround the outbreaks, set up quarantine checkpoints to strictly manage the outbreaks, and not transport pigs and pig products infected with the disease outside the outbreaks.
At the same time, immediately establish inspection teams to inspect and supervise epidemic prevention work in areas with blue ear disease and epidemic prevention work in pig farming areas, slaughterhouses, and trading areas with high risk of outbreaks.
In addition, People's Committees at all levels, especially local authorities and the local veterinary system, need to proactively collect information, inspect and monitor to promptly detect outbreaks in the area; organize full vaccination against dangerous diseases in pigs according to regulations; launch a general cleaning and disinfection campaign in all epidemic areas and areas where livestock and poultry are raised and slaughtered at high risk of disease outbreaks.
