Nghe An Provincial Trade Union: Good news from a contest

Just after 1 week of launching, the contest“Nghe An Provincial Trade Union Officials Learn about the Resolution on Innovation in Organization and Operation of Vietnam Trade Union in the New Situation”achieved truly impressive results, far exceeding the initial expectations of the Organizing Committee. According to the report of the Organizing Committee, the total number of contestants in the first week of the contest was 13,168 people (including a few union members), most of the contestants participated in 2 rounds or more; 100% of district, city, town trade union units, industry trade unions, and affiliated grassroots trade unions had union officials participating in the contest, typically the following units: Education, Health, Con Cuong, Thanh Chuong, Do Luong, Quy Chau, Quy Hop, Hoang Mai district labor unions achieved a rate of over 90% of union officials participating in the contest.

The multiple choice test format with 4 scoring criteria (correct answer, correct prediction, earliest test, fastest answer) and the method of reversing the order of questions and options made the competition extremely exciting and attractive. Among the contestants who won prizes in the first week, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngan (Anh Son 3 High School) was considered a very special contestant with a total of 3,848 test attempts.

Explaining this impressive number, Ms. Ngan confided: "I am a person who is passionate aboutonline contestand has experience participating and winning prizes in many competitions from the central to local levels. For me, it is a very effective and interesting way to learn. In this competition, I highly appreciate the way the organizers chose the format and criteria, it was so practical and engaging that I used all my free time to participate. Once I had grasped all the answers, I tried to win myself by completing the test as quickly as possible.

Although she did not win the highest prize, Ms. Ngan completed the test in only 25-30 seconds per turn. Her secret was that before participating in the test, she downloaded Resolution 02 on trade union reform, read it carefully, and memorized it.

In addition to the attractiveness of the contest, the implementation method of the trade union levels also plays an extremely important role in the spread of this contest. At the Do Luong District Labor Federation, the contest "Nghe An Provincial Trade Union Officials learn about the Resolution on innovation of organization and operation of Vietnam Trade Union in the new situation" was not only implemented through documents, through trade union groups on zalo, shared on facebook but also organized directly at the training session on trade union work. Because the training session of the District Labor Federation took place after the contest was launched, all trade union officials participating had the opportunity to compete together on stage via link to see who gave the fastest and most accurate results. The exciting atmosphere and attractive content made the contest a true race between one contestant and another, one trade union and another.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong Thuy - President of the Do Luong District Labor Federation shared: "Implementing the contest in the early days was quite difficult. Because some union members were old and not familiar with IT, we had to create detailed and specific instructions for participating in the contest with pictures. In addition, the District Labor Federation continuously reviewed the results of the top 50 of the contest to promptly have forms of commendation, encouragement and urging the units". The creative approach of the Do Luong District Labor Federation has also been actively implemented by many grassroots unions.

Ms. Thuy also expressed her hope that in the following weeks of the contest, the Provincial Federation of Labor will have additional prizes for the contestants who answer correctly and quickly (without including prediction criteria) to recognize the union members with the most solid and certain knowledge about union innovation.

EFFORTS OF THE ORGANIZING COMMITTEE

For more than 10 days from the planning to the official launch, the contest organizers had to work regardless of hours, even on holidays, to ensure that all related factors were smooth, and that all situations that could arise were anticipated. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy - Head of the Propaganda Department of the Provincial Federation of Labor, a member of the contest's Organizing Committee, said: "We sent the set of questions to the grassroots trade unions before the contest took place so that everyone had the opportunity to study and find the answers themselves. During the first day of the contest, we had to sit at the computer, constantly answer the phone to support, guide, answer questions from the union members and fix transmission problems due to too many people logging in, everyone wanted to be the first to participate and complete the most accurate test."

Through the statistics of the online contest software, the Organizing Committee of the contest can easily collect detailed information of the participants and monitor the contest. To create a competitive atmosphere among individuals and units, the Labor Federation updates the top contestants every day and this list is constantly changing due to the enthusiastic participation of the CBCCĐ. "There are people participating in the contest at any time of the day, even at midnight or early morning. In particular, there are many contestants logging in from other provinces and cities such as Hanoi, Thanh Hoa, Hai Phong... After 1 week of organizing, due to the attraction of the contest, the Provincial Federation of Labor has decided to make changes to better suit the situation. Accordingly, from the 2nd week of the contest, in addition to changes in the set of questions, the contest will increase the number of prizes and expand the number of participants. This promises to increase the effectiveness and spread of the contest.
