An Indian company has found a new way to reduce CO2 in the environment by turning it into baking soda.

CarbonClean is using new technology to capture more than 66,000 tons of carbon emitted each year from coal-fired boilers at a coal-fired power plant in the city of Tuticorin, India, and use it to make baking soda (NaHCO3), also known as baking powder, Popular Mechanics reported.

Like most CO capture technologies2 Unlike CarbonClean, which uses a solvent to trap CO2and convert it into a less active form. The most common industrial solvent for CO capture2is amine. Meanwhile, the solvent CarbonClean uses is a new chemical that is more effective, cheaper and less wasteful.

The economic efficiency of the new solvent helps CarbonClean build a CO capture plant.2 The world's first to operate without government subsidies. The baking soda produced is used in many fields such as detergent, glass and pharmaceutical production.

CarbonClean estimates that about 5-10% of the carbon emitted from thermal power plants could be stored using their technology. If thermal power plants around the world adopted this technology, the amount of CO2Future emissions into the atmosphere will be significantly reduced.
