Recognition of a 300-year-old white apricot tree as a "heritage tree"
On the morning of February 13th, at Phu Tu communal house in Phu Hung commune, Ben Tre City People's Committee (Ben Tre province) held a ceremony to receive the certificate recognizing the ancient white apricot tree as a Vietnamese heritage tree.
The event was attended by representatives from the Provincial People's Council, the Provincial People's Committee, the Vietnam Association for the Protection of Nature and Environment, and a large number of local residents.
The white apricot tree in the courtyard of Phu Tu communal house, also known as Mai Khe or Nam Mai, is called the "ancient white apricot tree" by the locals because it is over 300 years old.
Legend has it that, since the time of Emperor Minh Mạng, when the local people were choosing land to build Phú Tự communal house, they saw a white plum tree growing lush and green.

Currently, the original trunk is gone, replaced by numerous smaller branches that spread out, forming a canopy covering over 200 square meters and reaching a height of 14 meters.
White plum blossoms bloom only once in spring, around the full moon of the first lunar month, emitting a delicate fragrance.
The white apricot tree in front of Phu Tu communal house is a rare ancient white apricot tree remaining in Southern Vietnam, associated with the history of our ancestors' pioneering of the South in the mid-18th century.
On this occasion, the People's Committee of Ben Tre City announced and awarded prizes for the Ben Tre City logo design competition.
The logo design by Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Duc (Ho Chi Minh City) won first prize. In addition, there were second, third, and consolation prizes.
