Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has just signed a decision recognizing Dong Hoi city as a type II urban area directly under Quang Binh province.

Dong Hoi City is the administrative, political, economic, cultural, social, and scientific and technological center of Quang Binh province, and a major tourist and transit hub of the North Central Region. Dong Hoi City was recognized as a Type III urban area directly under the province on October 28, 2003.

After more than 10 years of being recognized as a type III urban area, Dong Hoi city has achieved many accomplishments in urban development, and the living conditions of urban residents have been improved and enhanced. The city government and people have focused on mobilizing all resources to invest in building infrastructure, upgrading and beautifying the urban area, completing the transportation system, developing street trees, and building and developing a system of commercial and service centers…

The recognition of Dong Hoi city as a type II urban area directly under Quang Binh province will create an important impetus for the city's development into a major economic, political, cultural, and social center of the North Central region.
