Cong Phuong will become an Asian star
Mr. Kunio Numata highly appreciates Cong Phuong's talent and believes that with the full support of the club, the striker from Nghe An will become a big star in Asia.
“This season, Cong Phuong will wear the number 16 shirt. This is the number that Park Joo-ho, who is currently playing for Borussia Dortmund, wore when playing for Mito Hollyhock. We have a plan to help Cong Phuong develop his full potential and become a world-class star. The club will pay close attention to each step of this rookie's development in the coming time,” said Mito Hollyhock Club President Kunio Numata.
Cong Phuong has not fully recovered from the shoulder injury he suffered while playing for Vietnam U23 in the U23 Asian Cup in Qatar in January 2016. However, he was still registered by Mito Hollyhock Club to be added to the list of players participating in the first leg of J-League 2.
Cong Phuong was praised as “wise” when choosing to join Mito Hollyhock because this club is very good at developing young talent. Before Park Joo-ho, who started playing professionally atK's Denki Stadium Club, Japanese national team duo Marcus Tulio Tanaka and Tsukasa Shiotani both played for Mito Hollyhock when they were young. President Kunio Numata has high hopes that Cong Phuong will be able to reap the same success as the three seniors above after moving to Mito Hollyhock.

"I don't really care that I'm being treated for an injury and haven't been able to contribute anything to my new team. Injuries are an inevitable part of football and we have to accept them. For me right now, my goal is to try to get treated to return to the field as soon as possible. I hope everyone will always be by my side and support me. When I return, I will play with everything I have and regain my best form," Cong Phuong shared.
Cong Phuong further revealed that his goal is to be included in the main squad of Mito Hollyhock and get an early goal for himself.
Cong Phuong grew up at the HAGL Arsenal JMG training center and was a mainstay of the Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club in the 2015 V-League. On December 23, 2015, the striker from Nghe An signed a contract to play for Mito Hollyhock on loan for one year.
