Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan, Vice President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), confirmed that teams participating in the men's football event at the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines will be allowed to add two players over the age of 22 (U22+2 team).
Mr. Tuan said: "The Vietnam Football Federation has just received the regulations for the men's football competition from the SEA Games 30 Organizing Committee and is aware of this information. Previously, at a meeting of the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF), the AFF proposed to the SEA Games 30 Organizing Committee that the men's football competition be played with U22 teams."

However, the SEA Games organizing committee adjusted the age limit to U22+2, meaning adding two players over the age of 22, which is also interesting for the tournament. Having two older players in each team will improve the quality of the competition, so there's no problem with that."
With this adjustment, Vietnamese players who are overage for the 2019 SEA Games, such as Cong Phuong, Xuan Truong, Hung Dung, Duy Manh, etc., will have the opportunity to compete in the region's biggest sporting event.
This will undoubtedly be a much-needed addition to the Vietnam U22 team in their goal of winning the SEA Games gold medal. The 2019 SEA Games will take place at the end of November in the Philippines.
