New rural construction just used and abandoned

(Baonghean.vn) - After only a short time of use, the domestic water supply project of Bai So village, Tam Quang commune, Tuong Duong district (Nghe An) has been unable to operate and has been lying in the sun for nearly a year.

The water supply project in Bai So village, Tam Quang commune, Tuong Duong district (Nghe An) was built in 2014. The water supply system consists of 3 tanks with iron supports, 3 wells and water pipes to households. If it operates smoothly, the project will ensure water supply for 174 households in the entire village. However, for a long time, people have not been able to use water from this system.

Mr. Nguyen Cong Hien - Head of Bai So village said that the water supply project has stopped working for 6 months now. The cause is said to be a broken pump that the locality has not been able to fix or repair. "At first, there were 2 broken pumps, now the remaining one is also broken." - Mr. Nguyen Cong Hien said.

Mr. Nguyen Cong Hien added that the water supply project was built and assigned to Bai So village to manage and collect 2,000 VND/m3 from the people to pay for electricity and money for managers and operators. During the use, the people discovered that one of the three wells hit a limestone vein, so they stopped using it and switched to small water projects that they had previously invested in building themselves.

Mr. Ho Viet Dung, a resident living next to one of the three water tanks, said that since the village's pump broke down, he has been pumping water from his family's tank to the tank for his own family's use.

Mr. Ho Viet Son - Chairman of Tam Quang Commune People's Committee said that the water supply project was built and put into use since 2014. Regarding the well drilling and tank installation, the Tuong Duong District People's Committee is the investor. The survey, installation and purchase of the pipeline system are taken from the new rural program, with Tam Quang Commune People's Committee as the investor and Tien Phong Plastic Company providing partial support. People support digging trenches to lay pipes. Mr. Son added that he did not know the total investment capital, but the investment from the commune alone was 500 million VND.

Regarding the solution, Mr. Ho Viet Son said: We will check and fix the damaged pump to put the system back into operation. Regarding the well contaminated with limestone, we will use water from a nearby river instead.

It is known that Tuong Duong district focused on investing in Tam Quang commune with projects such as stadiums, rural roads, water works... to help this commune reach the NTM finish line soon. However, when Tam Quang commune had not reached the NTM finish line, the water works in Bai So village were soon abandoned.
