Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company: Purchasing 380 thousand tons of sugarcane for people

(Baonghean) - For the 2017-2018 crushing season, Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company has officially purchased raw sugarcane for farmers since November 12. According to Mr. Nguyen Ba Quy - Deputy Director of the company, although this year the weather is unfavorable, the company's sugarcane raw material area still has stable productivity, ensuring raw materials for the factory to operate.

At Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company these days, the working atmosphere has returned urgently after many months of break after the previous pressing season. To make the pressing season go smoothly, before purchasing sugarcane from farmers, the company mobilized technical workers to repair the production line, install and replace necessary equipment, ensuring a stable pressing capacity of 3.3 thousand tons of sugarcane/day. Starting from November 12, the company officially purchased raw sugarcane for farmers.

Before entering the sugarcane harvest season, the company coordinated with localities to repair degraded roads leading to sugarcane fields, ensuring convenience for vehicles to transport sugarcane.

Due to heavy rain and floods this year, the roads in the district were severely damaged, so the road repair work was difficult and required a lot of investment. At the same time, the company organized contracts with owners of means of transport to transport the cut sugarcane to the factory. It is expected that in the 2017-2018 crushing season, there will be 230 means of transport participating in transporting raw sugarcane to the factory.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tuat, a sugarcane grower in Mai Tan hamlet, Nghia Hoan commune, said: Before the crushing season, the company invested in repairing and upgrading raw material routes in the area, creating favorable conditions for people to harvest sugarcane. The company's policies for sugarcane growers in the first days of sugarcane purchase are appropriate. However, many areas will have reduced productivity because sugarcane is submerged in water for a long time.

Mr. Tuat's family alone has 5 hectares of sugarcane flooded, of which nearly 2 hectares are heavily flooded, and productivity will decrease significantly. He hopes that the company will direct agricultural staff to arrange a reasonable sugarcane harvest schedule for farmers, limiting the flowering of sugarcane. For Mr. Tuat's family, 23 hectares of sugarcane are rented in Thanh Chuong and Tan Ky districts. Every year, thanks to good coordination with the factory, the sugarcane purchasing process is neat and convenient.

According to the leader of Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company, the 2017-2018 crushing season is forecasted to have difficulties and complications, including the low sugar market; at the same time, the sugar inventory will be high, directly affecting the company's production and business and the income of sugarcane growers.

Recently, floods have submerged thousands of hectares of sugarcane, affecting productivity and increasing impurities on sugarcane, due to alluvium adhering to sugarcane, affecting sugar output. In order for the pressing season to be highly effective for both the factory and sugarcane growers, the company has directed agricultural staff to arrange a suitable sugarcane harvest schedule for farmers. Accordingly, based on each sugarcane area, the sugarcane import schedule will be announced for farmers to proactively harvest, avoiding the situation of young sugarcane being harvested first and old sugarcane being harvested later, affecting the quality of sugarcane for the entire next crop.
