(Baonghean.vn)- On the afternoon of April 26, Formosa Company's leaders bowed their heads in unison to apologize to Vietnam for the inappropriate statements of the Deputy Head of the Foreign Affairs Department.

"This is Mr. Pham's personal opinion and the company will severely punish him," On behalf of the company, Deputy CEO Truong Phuc Ninh apologized and promised to fulfill his commitment to Vietnam.

Previously on April 25, answering VTC 14, Mr. Chu Xuan Pham said: "If you want to catch fish, catch shrimp or build a factory, choose. If you choose both, being the Prime Minister won't be able to solve the problem."

Deputy General Director Truong Phuc Ninh affirmed that to operate the steel plant, Formosa imported machinery and equipment from Europe, all of which are among the most modern and advanced in the world.

Regarding the wastewater treatment system, Formosa invested in a 45 million USD system, which is also considered "advanced". "Whether the mass fish deaths are related to wastewater or not, we have to wait for the Vietnamese authorities to come to a conclusion," said Mr. Ninh.

Meanwhile, Mr. Khau Nhan Kiet, Director of Formosa, the company imports a small amount of acid to clean the factory's pipes, but not for use in the discharge pipes. Mr. Kiet said that all factors discharged into the environment are carefully checked. Recently, Formosa's discharge system was assessed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment as meeting standards.

Next, Deputy Head of Foreign Affairs Chu Xuan Pham stood up, bowed his head and apologized for his "offensive" statements. "I made incorrect statements, causing misunderstandings, affecting the relationship between Formosa and the government. I admit my mistakes," said Mr. Chu Xuan Pham.
