Song Con Sugar Company applies technical advances to sugarcane cultivation

This season, Mr. Le Minh Quy's family in Van Long hamlet, Giai Xuan commune, Tan Ky district planted 2 hectares of sugarcane on a large scale. Although he has been a long-time sugarcane farmer, this is the first year that his family has grown sugarcane strictly following scientific and technical processes in the cultivation stages, such as: selecting sugarcane varieties, applying lime powder, phosphate fertilizer, NPK fertilizer, and microbial organic fertilizer on an area of ​​2 hectares.

Up to now, after 7 months of planting and caring, his family's sugarcane fields have grown green and lush. These days, he is focusing on the fields to remove leaves from the sugarcane plants, carefully checking each row of sugarcane to achieve the highest yield. Mr. Quy excitedly said: "My family participating in this concentrated sugarcane planting model finds that the sugarcane rows are wider and more airy, so it is easier to weed, easier to fertilize, there are fewer pests and diseases, the sugarcane grows thicker and the expected yield at the end of the season will reach 80 - 100 tons/ha".

The mountainous commune of Giai Xuan is one of the localities with a large sugarcane growing area of ​​1,200 hectares. To improve productivity and crop quality, the local Party Committee and government have done a good job of land consolidation, coordinating with Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company to plant more than 100 hectares of concentrated sugarcane. Participating in the model, farmers are excited because they are guided to apply advanced scientific and technical processes from land preparation to planting and care, thereby reducing investment costs and labor.

Households are also supported by the Company with seeds, loan interest rates, 4 tons of treated bagasse sludge equivalent to 2,400,000 VND, especially the Company also buys sugarcane at a price increase of about 10% and people also enjoy a number of other preferential policies of the Company. After 7 months of implementation, the initial concentrated sugarcane planting model develops quickly, healthily, and densely, especially compared to the control sugarcane fields, the concentrated sugarcane fields are less susceptible to pests and diseases.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Trien - Vice Chairman of Giai Xuan Commune People's Committee affirmed: "Our locality has determined that large-scale concentrated sugarcane cultivation is very beneficial to the people. The expected yield per hectare is from 80 tons or more, with some plots reaching up to 100 tons/ha. Currently, many sugarcane hills are damaged by white cotton aphids, but the concentrated planting areas are not affected due to uniform control and care...

Many localities in Tan Ky district have been focusing on investing in building a large-scale concentrated sugarcane growing model, applying scientific and technical advances. Although the growing area is not large, the effectiveness of this model has affirmed its outstanding productivity. If previously, on an area of ​​1 hectare of sugarcane, the yield was only 55 tons, now this large-scale sugarcane growing model has a yield of 80 - 100 tons/ha, especially the sugar content in the sugarcane is much higher, so people can increase their income.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa - Vice Chairman of Tan Ky District People's Committee added: "From the effectiveness of the large-scale sugarcane growing model, the district is directing localities in the coming time to continue to consolidate land and exchange plots, build many concentrated sugarcane models to bring high income to farmers...".

The implementation of large-scale concentrated sugarcane cultivation using new technology has created a breakthrough in sugarcane productivity and quality, contributing to changing the small-scale production practices of farmers in Tan Ky district. Mr. Nguyen Ba Quy - Deputy Director of Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company emphasized: “In the coming time, the unit will coordinate to build an additional 200 hectares of concentrated raw sugarcane with an average yield of 100 tons/ha, 10 CCS sugar content; minimum average profit of 20 million VND/ha/crop. The large fields are applied with synchronous varieties, production processes, and the mechanization rate from planting to harvesting sugarcane reaches 100%. Between sugarcane growers and the company, there is always a close production link through contracts, with minimum profit insurance for farmers participating in large-scale concentrated sugarcane fields. With those goals, the implementation of concentrated sugarcane fields applying science and technology to sugarcane promises to bring high economic efficiency to Tan Ky farmers, contributing to the sustainable development of the sugarcane industry”.
