Conte admits Chelsea has no chance of winning the championship

Defeat to bottom-of-the-table West Ham puts the London side in danger of falling 14 points behind Man City.

"If we want to continue in the race, the team must maintain a stable performance. This is not our case. Losing four out of 16 rounds, do not think about winning the championship," Conte said after the defeat at the London Stadium.

The defeat to West Ham was Chelsea's fourth Premier League defeat of the season. The defending champions are on 32 points, 11 behind leaders Man City but have played a game less. If Man City beat Man Utd on Sunday night, the gap will be 14 points.

Chelsea opened the season with a defeat to Burnley, then lost to bottom-placed Crystal Palace before being beaten by Man City in their head-to-head. The team that beat Chelsea, West Ham, are in the relegation zone and have not won in eight games.

"We have reasons to justify the defeat to Man City when we played only two days after playing in the Champions League," said Conte. "However, losing to bottom team Crystal Palace and a team in the relegation zone like West Ham is unacceptable. We have to change and play at our best. However, I also said this is a very difficult season."
