Covid-19 in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi 'basically under control'

The Ministry of Health assessed on the afternoon of February 12 that Covid-19 has been basically controlled in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, and contact tracing is still being carried out urgently to prevent the outbreak.

On the same afternoon, Vietnam recorded two new cases, both of whom had been quarantined since late January, one in Hanoi and one in Bac Ninh. The total number of infections nationwide in the past 16 days has reached 555, in 13 provinces and cities.

Vietnam has recorded three strains of nCoV, including the UK strain causing an epidemic in 13 provinces and cities with the epicenters being Hai Duong and Quang Ninh; the South African strain in two patients who were quarantined immediately upon entering the country, and the African Rwanda strain in the transmission chain at Tan Son Nhat airport, Ho Chi Minh City.

Ho Chi Minh CityCurrently, there are 34 Covid-19 cases, including one case related to Hai Duong and 33 cases related to Tan Son Nhat airport. The city is continuing to expand the investigation and take samples for testing of cases related to stevedores at Tan Son Nhat airport.

More than 30 officers from 3 rapid response teams of the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City provided professional support and directly carried out epidemiological investigations. The Ministry of Health assessed that the epidemic situation in the city is now basically under control, with drastic epidemic prevention solutions.

Hanoirecorded a total of 30 Covid-19 cases. The city has been tracing, isolating suspected cases and taking large-scale samples for testing.

The Ministry of Health also assessed that the epidemic situation in Hanoi is basically under control. At Noi Bai airport, the city tested more than 12,000 samples of airport staff. Currently, more than 10,700 samples have negative results, the remaining samples continue to be tested.

Hanoi mobilized 10,000 community epidemic prevention teams to continue "going to every alley, knocking on every door, checking every subject" to find the remaining pieces of the epidemiological puzzle in the community.

Mr. Nguyen The Trung, Deputy Head of the Covid-19 Rapid Response Information Team, Ministry of Health, shared: "During the Tet holiday, if the Hanoi Center for Disease Control needs support, just call or report to the group and you will be supported and handled immediately."

Hai Duongrecorded 383 cases of Covid-19 in the community. The outbreak in Cam Giang district, Chi Linh city, continues to be locked down to control the epidemic situation inside these areas, there is a possibility of more cases but in the locked down area.

Quang NinhTo date, 59 cases of Covid-19 have been recorded. The province has proactively screened and tested more than 67,000 samples, focusing on high-risk groups to detect nCoV infections early. Currently, Quang Ninh has controlled the epidemic well.

Other localities such as Hai Phong, Hoa Binh, Bac Ninh, Dien Bien, and Ha Giang have not recorded any new cases in recent days.

Regarding treatment,535 patients are being monitored at medical facilities. The third outbreak has so far had no deaths.

On the night of the 30th of Tet, Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long welcomed the New Year with 18 medical facilities treating Covid-19 patients at the Central Tropical Hospital, Dong Anh Branch 2, and encouraged the medical staff on duty.

During Tet, the Ministry of Health recommends that people follow the 5K message well, especially wearing masks when leaving the house.
