Although he could not continue to cause surprises when he lost to Jeremy Bury with a score of 30-40 after 20 shots, Quyet Chien became the second Vietnamese player to reach the final of a World Cup tour, after player Tran Chi Thanh in 2007.
Winning the runner-up position at the 2016 Guri World Cup, Quyet Chien received a bonus of 3,500 euros and 54 bonus points. The player from Ca Mau rose to 10th place on the World Carom Billiards Association rankings announced right after the tournament ended (September 4).
It is known that Tran Quyet Chien had to pay for his own expenses to go to Korea to compete. He did not go straight to the official competition round, but had to start from the preliminary round. However, the Vietnamese player caused a big surprise when he continuously defeated stronger opponents, including the Dutch "tiger" Dick Jasper in the semi-finals.
Previously, Vietnamese 3-cushion carom has won 1 runner-up position and 3 third places at the World Cup: Suwon 2007 runner-up Tran Chi Thanh; third place Ma Xuan Cuong (Suwon 2011), Ngo Dinh Nai (Guri 2013), Nguyen Quoc Nguyen (HCMC 2016).
