(Baonghean) - After climbing Bu Xen slope with nearly 20km of mountain road, we arrived at Pieng Diem village, Chau Phong commune (Quy Chau district). This is a village with 100% Thai ethnic people living, the life of the people here still faces many difficulties due to the remote terrain, no national grid electricity, no market... Despite the difficulties and hardships, the children of Pieng Diem village have a very high spirit of learning. Most families in the village attach great importance to their children's education. Typical are the couple Mr. Vi Van Thuy and Mrs. Vi Thi Thoan.

Mr. Vi Van Thuy (born in 1962) is a Thai ethnic. His family has many siblings, so life is poor. Growing up, like his peers in this difficult land, Mr. Thoan did not have the opportunity to study properly. He dropped out of school to help his parents with farming, then Mr. Thuy married Ms. Vi Thi Thoan (born in 1964).

The couple's life was full of difficulties, mainly depending on the terraced fields with irregular yields and year-round crop failures. Poverty and hunger continued to haunt Mr. Thuy and Mrs. Thoan.

The family was poor and had many children, but in return, all four of Mr. Thuy's children were well-behaved and intelligent. The eldest daughter, Vi Thi Hong (born in 1984), after graduating from the accounting major at Nghe An Technical Economics College, was accepted to work at the Irrigation and Construction Station of Quy Chau district. The second sister, Vi Thi Ha (born in 1986), was an excellent student for 12 consecutive years; passed the entrance exam to the Faculty of Corporate Finance - Academy of Finance and Accounting. Currently, Vi Thi Ha has graduated and works at Thai Duong Animal Feed Joint Stock Company (Hung Yen).

Following in the footsteps of her two older sisters, the third sister, Vi Thi Thin (born in 1988), also passed the entrance exam to the Faculty of Economic Information - Academy of Finance and Accounting. She has now graduated and is working at a non-governmental project in Quy Chau district.

The youngest brother Vi Dinh Khiem (born in 1991) was also known for his excellent academic performance at the village school, having been an excellent student for many years. The time Khiem was in middle school and high school was also the most difficult period for the family. At that time, all three of Khiem's older sisters were studying at universities and colleges; therefore, providing money for four sisters at the same time became a huge burden for Mr. Thuy and Mrs. Thoan.

Despite the difficulties, Khiem tried very hard in his studies and passed the entrance exam to the University of Transport. Khiem is currently in his 4th year and in most semesters he has achieved quite high scores and won a scholarship from the school.

Talking about the difficulties of raising 4 children to attend university and college, Mr. Vi Van Thuy said: "Although I know it is difficult in every way, seeing that my children are well-behaved and good at studying, letting them drop out of school is something that my conscience does not allow. Therefore, my husband and I encouraged each other to work for hire, not minding anything as long as we had money to send to our children to study. During this time, in addition to working for hire and farming, I also took the opportunity to dig ponds to raise fish, so I also had some extra income. My 4 children have finished their studies, have stable jobs, that is a priceless asset, the savings of my husband and I...".
