The Thong Thu sub-border gate is permitted to operate for the exchange of goods.

The People's Committee of Nghe An province has just issued Decision No. 3392/QD-UBND announcing the list of auxiliary border gates permitted to conduct cross-border trade and exchange of goods in the province.

Accordingly, the Thong Thu sub-border gate in Thong Thu commune, Que Phong district, is permitted to conduct the buying, selling, and exchange of goods across the border within the province.

Goods exchanged and traded through secondary border gates by traders and residents are carried out in accordance with the regulations in Circular No. 01/2018/TT-BCT and Circular No. 02/2018/TT-BCT dated February 27, 2018, of the Minister of Industry and Trade and other relevant regulations.

The Provincial People's Committee assigns the Department of Industry and Trade to take the lead and coordinate with relevant agencies and units to proactively organize and implement state management of the buying, selling, and exchange of goods through the Thong Thu sub-border gate in accordance with the law.

The Provincial Customs Department, the Provincial Border Guard Command, the Department of Health, the Department of Transport, the Regional Plant Quarantine Sub-Department VI, the Regional Veterinary Sub-Department III, and other relevant agencies and units, based on current regulations and according to their assigned functions and duties, are responsible for ensuring the necessary conditions for the smooth and compliant operation of buying, selling, and exchanging goods through the Thong Thu sub-border gate.

The decision takes effect from December 10, 2024.

Thong Thu is a mountainous border commune in Que Phong district, Nghe An province, with over 33.7 km of border shared with Laos. The commune comprises 8 villages with 1158 households and 5123 inhabitants, mostly ethnic minorities. To the west, it borders the Vieng Phan cluster of villages in Sam Tay district, Hua Phan province, Laos. People from both districts frequently cross the border to visit relatives, exchange information, and conduct business.
