The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba elected President Miguel Diaz Canel as First Secretary at its 8th Congress held from April 16 to April 19.

President Miguel Diaz Canel, 61 years old, was elected as First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, replacing his predecessor, General Raul Castro, who had previously announced that he would not accept the nomination to join the Party's supreme leadership body.

Thus, Mr. Miguel Diaz Canel from April 19 will be the First Secretary of the Communist Party andPresident of Cuba.

In the final meeting on April 19, the Communist Party of Cuba also announced the list of the Central Executive Committee consisting of 96 members, including the Politburo of 14 members and the Secretariat of 6 members./.
