Department of Meritorious People responds to the recognition of martyrs for 2 deceased "knights"
“The Department is waiting for the report results from the police and the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City. Based on the specific records, if all factors are met, the Department will prepare a report to the leaders of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs to submit to the Government for consideration of recognizing the two fallen knights as martyrs.”
Two knights died, three others were seriously injured while catching a thief
Seeing a group of young men stealing a SH motorbike, the knights rushed in to arrest them but were stabbed repeatedly, leaving 2 dead and 3 in critical condition.
Mr. Dao Ngoc Loi - Director of the Department of Meritorious People (Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs) discussed the information related to the death of two "knights" Nguyen Hoang Nam (29 years old, living in Go Vap) and Nguyen Van Thoi (42 years old, from Binh Dinh) while chasing a group of motorbike thieves in Ho Chi Minh City.
To ensure proper procedures, Mr. Dao Ngoc Loi said: On the afternoon of May 14, the Department requested the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs to urgently collect information from relevant authorities to complete and consolidate the review dossier, thereby advising the leaders of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs on submitting it to the Government.

Expressing his personal opinion, Mr. Dao Ngoc Loi said that acts of chivalry for the community, sacrificing one's life for justice are very valuable and need to be widely promoted and honored in society.
"However, to have sufficient grounds to conclude, the authorities are urgently completing the case file and will soon have a conclusion to the public as soon as possible," said Mr. Dao Ngoc Loi.
It is known that Clause e and Clause d, Article 11 of the Ordinance on preferential treatment for people with meritorious services specifically stipulate that martyrs are those who have sacrificed for the revolutionary cause of national liberation, protecting the Fatherland and fulfilling international obligations or for the benefit of the State and the people and are posthumously awarded the title "Fatherland's recognition" by the State in one of the following cases: "Fighting against crime; bravely performing urgent and dangerous work serving national defense and security; bravely saving people and property of the State and the people".
In addition, Article 17 of Decree 31/2013/ND-CP, the conditions for confirming martyr status are as follows: Directly participating in the fight against or preventing socially dangerous acts of crimes specified in the Penal Code; bravely performing urgent and dangerous work serving national defense and security...
Previously, as reported, on the evening of May 13, in Ho Chi Minh City, a group of 8 street knights ambushed a group of 4 people stealing SH motorbikes at a fashion store on Cach Mang Thang Tam Street, Ward 10, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City.
When discovered and controlled, the group of thieves used knives to fight back, causing the deaths of two knights Nguyen Van Thoi and Nguyen Hoang Nam and injuries to many others at varying degrees.
